Beat COVID-19 Together: Fundraisers and Charities You Can Support

covid-19 donations

These are difficult times for everyone  but some of us are fortunate enough to have a little more than others. When we see so much suffering amongst our fellow Filipinos, you get to see the innate goodness of people. Today you’ll find more and more stories of kindhearted individuals lending a helping hand to those who have barely enough to go by. This is why you see big corporations diverting their marketing budgets to charity, creating donation drives, and doing so much more to aid our frontliners and the most vulnerable sectors of our country.

Even if you don’t have millions to give, you can still be part of the fight against COVID-19. Here’s how you can help:

1. Stay at home

The best thing you can do to help the ones in the frontlines, the elderly, and the immuno-compromised is to stay at home. Limiting your trips outside decreases your chances of becoming a COVID-19 patient thus alleviating the stresses in the medical system. It also decreases the chances of you becoming a COVID-19 carrier which could endanger the vulnerable you may encounter throughout the day.

2. Check up on those closest to you

Remember that many people may have their source of income cut due to the enhanced community quarantine. Some of them may even be people you know. So before you start looking for fundraisers and charitable organizations to help, be sure to check in on family members and close friends. You never know which of your loved ones are struggling during the crisis. If they can’t access their banks at this time, you can always send money via M Lhuillier, Palawan Express, or Cebuana Lhuillier.

Tip: Send money to your loved ones from the safety of your home with Coins.ph! From your Wallet, you can help friends and family in need by transfering funds to their local bank account or by sending them money to remittance centers like LBC Instant Peso Padala, M Lhuillier Cash Pickup, and Palawan Express Pera Padala.

3. Donate to legitimate fundraisers and charitable organizations

Apart from donating PPEs and food to frontliners in your local hospital, you can also help the suffering of the most vulnerable sectors in this crisis by supporting charitable organizations that have programs tailored for their needs.

NOTE: Before you give your hard-earned money to any organization, make sure that it’s actually a legitimate charity or institution. Some institutions are named to sound like legitimate charity groups to scam hundreds of thousands from people.

Help the ones most in need through the COVID-19  crisis from the safety of your home by donating! Open your Coins Wallet app, tap Pay Bills, scroll to Donations, and select your charity of choice.

Don’t know where to start? Here are a few charities and organizations with COVID-19 relief programs that you can donate to straight from your Coins.ph Wallet:

APPEND

The Alliance of Philippine Partners in Enterprise Development (APPEND) focuses on alleviating poverty in the country through their microfinance programs and helping develop microenterprises for vulnerable sectors.

Since the start of the epidemic, they have declared a moratorium on microfinance loan payments for their beneficiaries. They’ve also continued to pay salaries of their employees despite the suspension of regular operations like client training, mass feeding, medical operations, and other development services.

Gawad Kalinga

GK’s mission since 2003 is to end poverty for five million families by 2024 through various humanitarian and livelihood programs. In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, they mounted OPERATION “WALANG IWANAN, WALANG HAWAAN” which aims to bring food relief to the Filipino poor while managing the transmission of the coronavirus to a minimum in the process. By donating as little as P350, you can augment a family’s food and health needs for an entire week.

International Care Ministries

The ICM continues to transform the lives of the poor in the Philippines even with the COVID-19 crisis. They do this through holistic programs that provide teachings of good morals and values, nutrition support, health courses with basic first aid, hygiene courses with disease prevention, child development courses, family care, parent and child education, financial aid for microenterprise capital, product development and marketing courses, bookkeeping, and financing courses, and other programs that can help beneficiaries and their future generations create a better future.

Kythe Foundation

This foundation supports children with cancer and other chronic illnesses through financial and psychosocial aid. With the COVID-19 quarantine affecting income, parents of children with life-threatening conditions struggle to meet basic needs on top of the medical needs of their sick children.

Donate to Kythe Foundation to help parents sustain their household through these difficult times and, more importantly, allow them to stay home to avoid infecting their immuno-compromised family members.

Philippine Animal Rescue Team

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, PART continues to rescue, shelter, and provide quality veterinary care and rehabilitation to abandoned, injured, sick, and unwanted animals. Help them care for their furry and feathered friends

Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation

FinTech Alliance in partnership with the Philippine Disaster Resiliency Foundation (PDRF) is raising funds to provide PPE Daily Sets for frontliners. Each PPE set will consist of one N95 mask, one gown, two pairs of gloves, two pieces of head covers, two pairs of shoe covers and one pair of goggles.

These PPE sets will be distributed in at least 11 hospitals in Luzon including PGH, Veterans Hospital, Quezon City General Hospital, Amang Rodriguez Hospital, Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, Manila Doctors Hospital, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, San Lazaro Hospital, Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Rizal Medical Center, and East Avenue Medical Center.

Shared Aid Fund For Emergency Response

SAFER presents IMPROV FOR CAUSE, an online fundraiser show. Donations will help provide food kits to 1,400 families affected by the ECQ in Navotas. A P500 donation can feed one family for an entire week.

Virlanie Foundation

Virlanie focuses on giving healthy food, hygiene kits, medicine, and vitamins to street children and families heavily affected by the ECQ. Your P2,000 donation can support one street family for up to two weeks.
